The Computer Science Department, University of Geneva, Switzerland, has the following openings for PhD students, financed in part by the Hasler Foundation:


PhD position 1: project POPWiN - Parallel Object Remote Programming for Heterogeneous Wireless Networks over IPv6. Theoretical Computer Science and Sensor Nets Laboratory (http://tcs.unige.ch)

This project is in collaboration with the Grid and Cloud Computing group of the HES-SO University of Applied Sciences of Fribourg, Switzerland. The whole project is dedicated to the development of programming tools for heterogeneous wireless networks over IPv6. The PhD candidate to the open position in the TCS group will be responsible for the design and the implementation of the communication mechanisms in the wireless networks. The successful candidate should have some knowledge of wireless communications. She/He will work on the following topics: Energy-balance routing mechanisms; Implementation of Geographic Coordinates systems; Adaptive and cooperative tracking mechanisms.

The candidate should have a background in Computer Sciences and some interest in applied mathematics, modelling, programming tiny devices (sensors) and, wireless computer networks.

Contract duration: 1 initial year, up to 3-4 years. The starting date is January 2012.
